Ethiopian Radiation Protection Authority (ERPA) has accomplished an international Assessment by IAEA.

An international team of senior safety experts that comprised 9 senior regulatory experts from IAEA member state and 2 IAEA staff has conducted an Integrated Regulatory Review Service (IRRS) mission from 3 to 12 December 2017 which aimed to perform a peer review of Ethiopian National Regulatory Framework for Nuclear Radiation safety.

አዮዲን-131 የተባለው ጨረራ አመንጭ ቁስ ጨረራ የማመንጨት ችሎታው በግማሽ የሚቀንስበት መንፈቀ ህይወቱ 8 ቀናት የሆነው በእንቅርት ውስጥ የሚከማች ከሆነ በህጻናት ላይ የሚያስከትለው ችግር ቀላል እንዳልሆነ ይታወቃል፡፡ ይህንኑ ቼርኖቤል ያስከተለውን ውጤት የተባበሩት መንግስታት ኤስ.ሲ.ኢ.ኤ.አር በ2000 አትሙ አውጥቶታል፡፡ ይሄው ሳይንሳዊ ፍተሻ እንደሚሳየው በአደጋው ወቅት ከተጋለጡት ውስጥ 1800 ለእንቅርት ካንሰር የተዳረጉ ህጻናት እንደሚገኙበት ያሳያል፡፡ አጋጣሚ ሆኖ ከፈጠረው በርካታ ጉዳቶች አንጻር ከፍተኛ ህመም ቢኖርም ለሞት የዳረገ አልነበረም፡፡ ከጦሱ ጋር በተገናኘም እስካሁን ድረስ ምንም አይነት ማስረጃ አላገኘም ፡፡

Regional training that aimed to enhance the competence required for regulatory bodies was held form April 20-24,2015 here in Addis Ababa at Jupiter International Hotel .The training entitled 'Regional Training Course on organization Staffing and Competency of the Regulatory body' was organized by the Ethiopian Radiation Protection Authority in cooptation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

በጨረራ በመጠቀም ምግብን የማጨረር ቴክኖሎጅ በጨረራ በመታገዝ የሚከናወን ሲሆን አላማው ጎጅ ባክቴሪያዎችን፣ ነፍሳትንና ፓራሳይቶችን ወይም ምግብ ወለድ በሽታዎችን በማስወገድ የምግብን ደህንነት መጠበቅ ነው፡፡ ይህ ሂደት ምግብን ለጋማ ሬይ፣ ኤክስሬይና አክስሌሬትድ ኤሌክትሮንስ በማጋለጥ የማጨረር ሂደት ሲሆን በዚህ ቴክኖሎጅ የጨረረ ምግብ ሳይንሳዊ ይዘቱን ስለማይለወጥ የወትሮ ጠቀሜታው እንደተጠበቀ ይገኛል፡፡

የጨረራ አደጋ ወይንም ራዴሽን አክሲደንት ስንል ባልተጠበቀ ሁኔታ ለአይዮን ፈጣሪ የጨረራ አመንጪ ቁሶች መጋለጥ ነው፡፡ ይህ አደጋ በተጨባጭ ወይንም ተጨባጭ ባልሆነ መልኩ ሊከሠት ይችላል፡፡

ጨረራ በአይን የማይታይ በሞገድ ወይም በልዩ ልዩ ቅንጣጢቶች መልክ ከቦታ ቦታ የሚጓዝ ሃይል ነው፡፡ ጨረራ በተፈጥሮና በሰው ሰራሽ መንገድ ልናገኘው እንችላለን፡፡ በዛሬው ጽሁፍ የሰው ሰራሽ ጨረራን ጠቀሜታን ለማስተዋወቅ እንሞክራለን፡፡ ጨረራ በአለማችን ላይ ከፍተኛ ጠቀሜታ ያለው ቴክኖሎጅ ከመሆኑ የተነሳ የአገራት የታላቅነት ሚስጢር እስከመሆን ደርሷል፡፡ ለዚህም የአሜሪካ ፣ ሩሲያ ፣ ቻይና ፣ ሰሜን ኮሪያን ነባራዊ ሁነታ ማየት እንችላለን፡፡ ሀገራቱ የሚፈሩትና የሚከበሩበት ዋነኛው ሚስጢር የኑክሌር ሃይል አቅማቸው ከፍተኛ በመሆኑ ነው፡፡

Workshop on Radiation Safety and Security conducted Workshop on Radiation Safety and Security conducted

A workshop organized by the National Nuclear Security Administration of U.S in cooperation with the Ethiopian Radiation Protection Authority was conducted at Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa, from August 3 to 4, 2015. The workshop focused on the development of regulations that is a vital tool for the security of radioactive sources and nuclear facilities. Specific topics such as IAEA Code of conduct which basically provides guidance for developing policies laws and regulations to uphold the safety and security of radioactive sources, categorization of radioactive sources that helps maintain a high level of safety and security, IAEA Nuclear Security Series that serves as a guidance for establishing regulating requirements, regulatory development process that introduces a systematic process which helps make development of new security regulations more effective and efficient and principles that highlight effective regulation drafting were critically addressed in the workshop.
